STAPS (Sciences and Techniques of Sports and Physical Activities) is one of  the most attractive disciplines in the French University landscape :high level research, all educational levels – bachelor’s degrees, master’s degrees, PhDs – adapted to the realities of employment in attractive and varied spheres of activities.

  • Professions of education and research (primary school through to high school physical education and sport teaching, university careers…)
  • Professions related to health and well-being (fitness, aging, obesity, handicap…)
  • Professions in recreation, tourism and leisure activities (associations, leisure centers, sports and leisure activities…)
  • Communication professions and sports marketing (communication or marketing manager in federations, sports companies.

Thanks to a proactive strategy, the STAPS department displays today one of the best rates of professional insertion in French universities: 85% of students holding at least a bachelor’s degree find stable and qualification-related employment within six months of graduation.

STAPS at Paris-Sud university

Located on the the Orsay campus in green and wooded surroundings, UFR STAPS is the newest UFR of the Paris-Sud university. A STAPS department was created in 1985 on the Orsay campus and later became a UFR after a Board of Directors decision on June 18, 2003. The SUAPS (University Service of Physical and Sports Activities) was integrated to the new UFR STAPS.

Joining STAPS at the Paris-Sud University means taking advantage of an exceptional research and training context, with 3 research teams in an accredited laboratory, 4 different bachelor’s degrees and 2 applied bachelor’s degrees, 8 master’s degrees specialties and one of the two STAPS PhD schools in France.

Every year, UFR STAPS welcomes 1, 000 students and more than 200 teachers (80 tenured professors and approximately 150 non-tenured teachers).

Research covers several domains of motor and sports activities, taught in 5 main disciplines:

The Complexity, Innovation, Sports and motor Activities (CIAMS)) laboratory at UFR STAPS of Paris-Sud University is constituted by 3 research teams:

  • The Motor Control and Perception (CMP) team
  • The Risk, Intervention, Motion, Balance (RIME) team
  • The Sports, Social Policies and Transformations (SPOTS) team

UFR STAPS offers 3 master’s degree research specialties and 3 vocational specialties.

  • Motor control (CM)
  • Physical practices: psychological prospects (4Ps)
  • Sport social organization (OSS)
  • Professional master’s degrees
  • Events management and recreational sports (MELS)
  • Public policies and sports organization strategies (PPSOS) in collaboration with the Jean Monnet School at Paris-Sud 11 (Law, Economics and Management School)
  • Aging and handicap: motion and adaptation (VHMA) in collaboration with the Medical School of Paris-Sud 11.
  • Teaching 1st and 2nd degrees (beginning in September 2010)
